Stand Together, Unify Our Effort
Statement on the Controversy of the Extra Edition of WINGS

The Editorial Board, HKUSTSU, always spare no efforts in voicing our students’ opinions to the school. In the recent dispute over the allocation of hall place, our board has consistently performed our duty. Last Friday (20th April), we distributed the Extra Edition of WINGS to all students, reported the whole incident, and criticized the school authority’s inefficient management and unclear instruction to students.

However, because of the inadequate amount of time preparing the Extra Edition of WINGS, we faced difficulties collecting opinions from non-local students. In the absence of adequate communication, we may not have a thorough understanding of the whole picture, which resulted in reporting inaccurate information and creating some misunderstandings. We, the Editorial Board, HKUSTSU, hereby sincerely apologize for any hard feelings aroused. Moreover, we would like to clarify that we are devoted to serve ALL HKUST students, both local students living in remote districts, such as Tin Shui Wai and Lamma Island, and non-local Year-3 or above students, without any kind of injustice. Therefore, we strongly recommend that SHO should provide them with utmost support and assistance, so as to overcome this situation. As the University of Hong Kong has been providing subsidies for non-local students, our school should grant subsidies or loans to students with financial difficulties.

We, the Editorial Board, HKUSTSU, promise that when discussing issues involving the interest of all students, we would by every means provide a comprehensive channel to include both Chinese and English editions, so that all students could understand the related matter.

We truly believe that only with our collective effort can we build a better tomorrow. It’s time to stand together and be united. Let all of our voices be heard!
